Как и во всей Европе, в Словакии главный празднок – Рождество. Подготовка к нему начинается с 5 декабря, Дня Святого Микулаша. Дети, которые целый год прилежно себя вели, ждут в этот день подарков. Чтобы получить их, необходимо хорошо вымыть ботинки и поставить их на ночь на подоконник. Согласно поверью, Святой Микулаш идёт вместе со своими помощниками, ангелом и чёртом. Если малыш действительно прилежно себя вёл, ангел оставит ему подарок в башмаке. Если же Микулаш узнает о скверных проделках ребёнка, “презент” достанется ему от чёрта. Как правило, это уголь, который щедро насыпают в ботинок.
